So it has been a few months now since I first started looking more seriously into cryptocurrencies and I thought I would share my thoughts on it all. I still have a very small portfolio of projects that I have invested in but that’s only because I have a very small amount of money to play with. Although I’ve learned a lot more about crypto I still would NOT recommend putting all of your investment eggs in the crypto basket, in fact I would put very few in as it’s a very fast moving space.
Before I started looking into crypto I just thought it was a digital currency trying replace fiat money. Part of it is that, but it’s also much more. There’s blockchain technology, smart contracts, and the ability to store and transfer value. All things we will need and use in the future, regardless of what Bitcoin, Ethereum or NEO becomes. They could all disappear tomorrow but blockchain will stick around.
My Cryptocurrency Portfolio for 2018
Obviously this is not financial advice, I’m just sharing what I’ve invested in this year. In the majority of cases I would say run from cryptocurrencies as they’re so volatile. If you have extra money that you can afford to lose and you don’t have heart problems, then jump on board the crypto train.. it’s a wild ride.
I’m not good at graphs but that’s what my crypto currency portfolio looks like in 2018. They’re dollar amounts of each coin that I own at the moment. So that’s a total of about $2,370. I’ve put in roughly $2,550 so I haven’t moved any closer to my crypto Mercedes-AMG C63 yet!
Future Plans for my Crypto Portfolio in 2018
I’m going to persist with crypto even though I haven’t made anything out of it yet. The more I learn about various projects the more I like the whole crypto space. As far as individual coins..
- NEO – $914 It’s my largest investment at the moment and I plan to buy more. I like GAS and I like some of the projects being launched using NEO technology.
- Ethereum – $675 I like Ethereum too. Some people say it could overtake Bitcoin this year and it was looking very likely but Bitcoin has been clawing back some ground in recent weeks.
- Bitcoin – $226 Bitcoin investing has been a good way to make money disappear this year.
- EOS – $197 I really only bought EOS because of the people behind it.
- Ripple – $160 I probably should have sold this bloody thing already. It was one of my first purchases and has been my biggest loss. All it does each day is go down in value! I definitely won’t be adding to this position.
- Basic Attention Token – $138 BAT is an interesting project looking to monetize websites by allowing visitors to reward their favourite publishers with BAT tokens. Check out their Brave web browser too. I have been using it for a few days now.
- Walton – $60 I don’t think I’ll be adding to this position.
For Australians interested in buying crypto currencies I would recommend looking at Coinspot. They have the big boys like Bitcoin and Litecoin but also have a whole bunch of smaller coins.
For others there’s Coinbase. It doesn’t deal in smaller coins, just the big guys but it’s a great place to get started with cryptocurrencies.
