Just browsing through a popular luxury watch site like you do when you’re tired of looking through car sites and real estate sites, only to discover that a lot of watches sell for more than a million dollars. The most expensive watch that I found for sale at the moment was a Patek Philippe for nearly $6 million Australian dollars or almost $4.8 million USD. Do people wear these multi-million dollar watches or are they only ever kept locked up in safes?!
That one Patek Philippe watch would allow me to safely retire in a waterfront mansion with my dream car and have enough investments in stocks and real estate to live very comfortably for the rest of my life. I worked out that I need $4.5 million AUD to be free from slavery and live how I want.
It shows just how many levels of success there are in the world. One man’s watch on the wrist is another man’s freedom from slavery fund. Obviously the person thinking of buying this watch is not tossing up between the watch or freedom, they must already be free many times over. Surely they would have to have a net worth in the tens of millions to be even considering such a purchase.
It’s both inspiring and a little frustrating to me. I love that others have these amazing choices but after 3 months of decreasing income (and this is after I hit rock bottom), I’m thinking WTF! 😉
I appreciate watches but have never owned anything worth more than a couple of hundred dollars. So, I’m going to set myself a watch goal. Something between $5,000 and $10,000. When I hit $10k profit in a month I’ll reward myself with a $10k watch. I’ll be doing more research but let me know which watch you would buy if it was your first higher end watch. The obvious would be a Rolex but I’m a weirdo and try to avoid doing what everyone else does, but we’ll see. Maybe I’ll be obvious this time and just get a Submariner!
Back to the point of this post though, here’s a list of 10 watches selling for more than a million dollars! They’re not the ten most expensive by order on the Chrono24 website, they’re just 10 watches selling for more than a million. I tried to mix the brands and models up a bit or they would have been all Pateks if I just listed the ten most expensive watches for sale on the website.

So there it is, 10 watches and more than $10,000,000. Personally, the only one I would wear on this list would be the Patek Philippe at number 9. I like Richard Mille watches as they borrow heavily from art but I don’t like this Airbus Corp Jets watch very much. I would love to hold it and look at more closely though.
Do you like any of the watches on the list? Does taste seem to vanish as zeroes are added to the price of a watch or are these the most beautiful things you’ve ever seen?
What watch would you buy for $10,000? It’s your first good watch and it should be versatile. So it should work as a dress watch and an everyday watch.
